A descriptive analysis of academic studies on argumentation in science education in Turkey within the last ten years

Argumentation is a very important application in terms of acquisition of science literacy, structuring and development of intellectual actions. In line with this importance; Turkey in the last decade of Sciences made the subjective themed argumentation YOK purpose of the National Thesis graduate reached the Center work, attention, problem statement, assumptions-limitations, evaluation methods and results constitute the purpose of the study. Descriptive analysis method was used to solve the problem. In order to determine the argumentation-based theses that have been made in the science of study, the studies on the argumentation studies conducted in the department of elementary education and science education-teacher education branches enrolled in the Council of Higher Education (YOK) database were examined. A total of 60 theses, including 19 doctoral and 41 masters degrees in science education conducted between 2008 and 2017, were identified at the national thesis center. As a result of the studies which were excluded from the research and due to the reasons of restriction, 9doctoral and 33 masters degrees thesis studies were conducted in total of 42 graduate theses. The parts of all the theses to be examined were read in detail. The researcher and two independent researchers specialized in their field evaluated the theses by coding separately to the relevant sections in the thesis evaluation form. After the evaluations, the numeration percentage and kappa value were calculated to determine the measurement reliability among the researchers. In the findings obtained from the results of the study; there are 26 graduate studies in the educational sciences institute; the degree of adequacy of the post-graduate dissertations in terms of purpose, importance, problem culmination, and limitations is high; the post-graduate studies in the field of argumentation are generally made in certain illicit states; the numerical width of the sample groups is insufficient; That the methods of the doctoral studies are more successful than the masters degree studies; there are insufficiencies as a result of evaluation of limitations and validity-reliability; it is seen that the scope of statistical methods determined in the study is insufficient and the same methods are used in most of the studies. Considering the positive effects of the argumentation model on the students and teachers, it has been determined that the theses about argumentation have increased in recent years.
