The experiences of LGBT+ migrants in Turkey regarding access to housing, education, labor, and health rights

In migration studies, it can be observed that there have been fewer studies on the experiences of migrants in recent years due to refugee mobility in Turkey. On the other hand, due to the differentiated migration policies in different countries, the categories of migrants and their legal rights also vary depending on the country of residence. The fact that migration authorities' definition of reasons for migration is based on necessity (forced) and voluntariness causes differentiation in the legal rights of migrants. The restrictions on migrants' access to legal and social rights expose them to many experiences of discrimination. In addition to their migrant identities, migrants face multi-layered violations of rights due to their other disadvantaged identities (LGBTI+, women, disabled persons, etc.). In particular, the migration status and gender identities of migrants further exacerbate their experiences of discrimination and violations of human rights. This study aims to contribute to migration and gender studies by making the experiences of LGBTI+ migrants living in Turkey visible while opening the dominant dichotomy of voluntary and forced migration to the discussion.
