Smart city applications in transportation and the case of Gaziantep

Today, the world is in a period of rapid change. In this process of change and transformation, defined as globalization, citizens' needs, demands, and expectations have increased and diversified. The rapid spread of globalization causes cities to enter into a spiral of competition within themselves. As a result of this change and competition, the diversified needs of the citizens, the environment they live in and their desire to benefit more from the city force cities to become smart cities. As a result, the studies have observed an increase to determine the factors that provide a competitive advantage. Gaziantep, which has taken serious steps towards becoming a smart city, has been examined in detail within the scope of this study. As a result of the literature review, it has been determined that various innovative applications are made in the city within the size of the "Smart City Gaziantep Project". In addition to the literature review, a survey technique, one of the quantitative research techniques, was applied to 398 participants to measure the local people's perception of intelligent applications. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the awareness level of the local people towards smart city applications applied in the field of transportation in Gaziantep is high. Still, this awareness level differs statistically significantly only according to monthly income.
