Levels of knowledge and behavi̇or of uni̇versity students i̇n relati̇on to ski̇n cancer and sun protecti̇on

This research was done by the students of Adnan Menderes Unıversıty and the subject of the research is skin cancer and protection ways from the sun. The universe of the study was done at Adnan Menderes University with 44.763 licence degree and associate degree students to analyze the sample we used the technique g power and it'saffect was low.The analyse was(0.10) 95 % power and 80 % trust and 1634 students joined the research. For the research we spoke to all students face to face and all surveys were filled in available conditions and places. A "Questionnaire Form",Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale and Sun Protection and Behavioral Scale developed by the researcher in accordance with the literature were used to collect data. The data of the study was evaluated with the SPSS statistics package program (Version 15.00 Chicago IL, USA) Data were evaluated using descriptive statistical analyses (mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage) One way ANOVA; Kruskal Wallis H test, Correlation Analysis, Two-Sample T Test were used. 74.9% of the students (n=1244) were female and % 25.1(n=410) were male and the mean age was 20.26±2.12. Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale of total score average 45,20±3,80; Sun Protection Subscale score 22,01±2,45; Tanning Subscale score 17,81±1,71; Skin Cancer Risk Factors Subscale score 7,84±1,19; Skin Cancer Prevention Subscale score 3,49±1,16; Skin Cancer Syptom Subscale score 2,29±0,95; Avoid from The Sun Subscale score 10,91±2,25; Using Sunscreen Subscale score 8,18±3,68; Using a Hat Subscale score 4,80±2,37 was found. According Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale we realize that there is definitely difference between skin cancer and sun knowledge we asked questions to students about theirdemographic statutes such as sex,school,family education level, hair color, sun alergy, skin disorders, sunspots and who had sun burn before and who believe the possibilty to be protected from skin cancer. But there is no difference found according to the place where they lived for long time and region,family type, eye color,number skin moles and skin cancer diagnose. According to Sun Protection and Behavioral Scale we found differences according to students eye color,school,the place where they lived long time, economic statutes, family types, family education types, hair color, number skin moles and belief possibilty can be protected from scin cancer.But we couldnt find any differences according students skin and eye color, sun alergy, skin disorder, sunspots and if he has a sun burn in past or not. According to results we agreed on that some of students individual specialities affected to scale points of research.
