Abstract (EN)
Vaginismus is a very common problem in developing countries. However the works in this area are quite limited in Turkey. The purpose of this work is the evaluation of the results and the comparison of the psychological symptoms, patients' viewpoints towards sexuality and marital satisfaction with the situation before the treatment. 23 women, suffering the conditions of vaginismus, within the boundaries of Istanbul city have been chosen randomly and collaborated with in this work. Before the sexual therapy started, personal information forms have been filled, SCL-90-R, The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (for the women), Marital Adjustment Scale have been applied to the patients before and after the treatment. These results have been compared with each other and evaluated with 95% confidence interval and with p<0, 05 level of significance. According to the total SCL-90-R points, It has been confirmed that the decline of the symptoms such as somatisation, obsessive compulsive, interpersonal sensibility, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, psikotism is significant (p<0,05). On the other hand according to FSFI and GRISS total points, it has been confirmed that, there is positive improvement with regards to sexual desire, excitation, satisfaction, pain, frequency, connection, satiation, vaginismus, orgasmic disorder, sexual satiation is significant (p<0,05) Beyond a sexual disorder, vaginismus is related to the various constituent of the mental health. In addition to the importance of the existence of psychological symptoms, the treatment of the sexual problems of the patients should be taken into consideration in order to proceed with the vaginismus treatment properly. It has been detected that the patients with vaginismus diagnosis find their sexual knowledge very low. Therefore, it is believed that the sexual knowledge and the education are important. It is also another important result that it is necessary to intervene to the sexual myths and to change the wrong beliefs towards sexual myths. Even though it has not been detected that there is not a change in terms of marital satisfaction after the treatment of the patients with vaginismus, there is an improvement with respect to psychological symptoms and also with respect to sexual function and sexual satiation which indicates the necessity and the success of the treatment.
