An evaluation of the climatic design approaches of houses and tandoori houses in van-baskale rural settlements

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the climatic design approaches of the rural architecture and tandoori houses in Van-Baskale which has cold climate characteristics. For this purpose, energy efficiency in architecture, climatic comfort and rural architecture are explained in general in the introduction section. This section provides information about the problem, purpose and scope. In the second section, studies on reducing energy problems caused by the consumed energy resources and energy efficiency are examined. The concepts of climatic comfort and energy efficiency as well as their place in the local architecture are explained. The importance of energy efficiency and climatic comfort in terms of user, environment and energy is explained. The parameters related to climatic comfort are also discussed. The climatic comfort parameters are explained in detail under the titles of the parameters of user, climate and building. In this way, design decisions that should be considered in the design of energy efficient buildings are examined and the importance of these design decisions in the formation of climatic comfort of the interior environment is explained. Climatic and geographical characteristics of Van province, which was determined as the study area, are explained. Information is given about rural settlements in Van. In a general approach, the characteristics of the local architecture and their impacts in terms of energy efficient design are evaluated. The literature on the formation and history of tandoori house is given under the title of resource summaries. In the third section, Baskale rural settlements, where the study has been conducted, are introduced. The characteristics of the region and the properties of the houses studied are elaborated on. Information is given about the method of the study. In the fourth section, the rural architectural structures of the Baskale district, which is determined as the study area, are examined in detail in terms of an assessment of energy efficient design approaches. Baskale rural architecture and tandoori houses, which have evolved over many years and reached the present day, and the building designs in accordance with climate characteristics are analyzed and addressed based on the parameters with respect to structure. In the fifth section, which involve the conclusions and recommendations, a general evaluation of the rural architectural examples according to climatic comfort parameters is made.
