Abstract (EN)
The effect of rhinoplasty on nasal airway is controversial in literature for a long time. We planned a randomized prospective controlled study to find an answer. This study was performed on 46 female patients who had no nasal breathing problem. In the first group, lateral osteotomies were done with a high to low start, and in the second group, they were done with a low to low start. Patients' breathings were assessed before and 6 months after surgery by NOSE, rhinomanometry, acoustic rhinometry Peak Nasal Inspiratory Flow (PNIF) tests. No statistically significant difference was found between two groups in terms of nasal breathing after surgery (p0,05). Additionally, each group's nasal breathing pattern was slightly better according to their preop status which had no statistically significant difference as well (p0,05). The principals of maintaining adequate nasal air flow after surgery in reduction rhinoplasty patients is discussed as 'Volumetric Rhinoplasty Concept'.
