Abstract (EN)
The general aim of this study is to analyze the effect of Web Based Distance Education on academic success and its permanence. For this purpose, under the scope of Web Based Distance Education, the synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods were applied to the experimental group students in the class of Internet Programming 2 course, and pretest-posttest with permanence test were performed for Internet Programming 2 class throughout the study. At the end of the study, interviews with studies were also performed, and their feedbacks were taken about Web Based Distance Education. In the study, the mixed method design was used and not only the qualitative methods but also the quantitative ones were benefited. In the study, a half-experimental model with pretest-posttest control group was used among the quantitative methods. The study group of our study was composed with 70 students who are educated in 2013-2014 academic term of Mustafa Kemal University, Kırıkhan Vocational School. In the study, which was continued 14 weeks, the lesson was taught with the Web Based Distance Education Methods for control group students via traditional teaching. In the study, as a means of data collection, the academic success test for Internet Programming 2 class, the scale of computer and internet usage and personal information form were used. In the analysis of obtained quantitative data, the qualitative statistics, The Independent Samples t Test, Paired Samples t Test and ANCOVA were used. In the Analysis of qualitative data, the qualitative analysis method was used. At the end of the study, the score of academic points for the students in the experiment group where the Web Based Distance Education exists appeared also higher than the control group where the traditional education methods were used for students. According to the this result, the environment of Web Based Distance Education in Internet Programming 2 of Vocational School has become effective to increase the academic success and to provide permanency. According to the interview results, the students generally state their own positive perspectives upon the Web Based Distance Education. Indeed, choosing the period of study, its time and place by themselves, and making the study environment proper to them, along with using their own style of study and having the equal conditions were stated among the positive views of the students. Moreover, the students also stated the usability of Web Based Distance Education, and the need of using Web Based Distance Education for other courses already exists. In spite of this, students was also remarked the technical lameness. In general acceptance, although this method has some negative aspects, it is understood that these negative sides don't prevent the advantages.
