Abstract (EN)

Turkey began to be governed by a different party after 27 years in 1950. From this date to 27 May 1960 the Democratic Party was the only power in country's administration. With the change of power, the one-party atmosphere was tried to be removed. While the opposition was under the influence of losing power, the government sought to get stronger. All kinds of political decisions of the Democratic Party government were strongly criticized by the opposition. Some laws passed by Menderes were deemed unconstitutional. Both the opposition and the press strongly criticized the DP government. The laws enacted by the DP and the attitude of Menderes disturbed the army as well. Thus, a military junta took action to overthrow power and bring democracy to the country. Menderes was unseated by a military coup. President Celal Bayar and Prime Minister Adnan Menderes as well as all his friends from the DP were arrested and tried in Yassıada Courts. The courts took about a year. The court sentenced 15 people to death as a result of the indictments prepared to the smallest detail and the cross-examination of the defendants. However, in the end, the sentences of 3 people were finalized by the MBK(Nationel Unity Committee) and their execution was carried out.
