Abstract (EN)
The Alevis, who have been described as a minority group in the European Commision Progress Reports since 1998, have been subjected to many lynching and attack attempts throughout the history of the Republic, which made it difficult for them to live in peace and tranquility in this society. Although the Madımak Incident, which is the subject of this study in particular, presents a wide field of discussion in the Alevi group in terms of its emergence, results and perpetrators, it is thought that the studies in the literature are not sufficient to clarify the experiences. For this reason, the study aimed to examine the Turkish press in terms of discourse in order to better clarify the Madımak Incident. In this study, it has been examined how these acts of violence against the Alevis regarding the Madımak incident are interpreted in the media, by which oppositions the newspapers marginalized this event with the news they presented, whether the news presentations of the newspapers attempt a new construction of the event with the discourses of the politicians of the period. The news texts of Cumhuriyet and Türkiye newspapers on July in 1993-1994-1995 were analyzed in accordance with Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis to reveal the ideological fictions underlying the news texts. It has been examined who "us" and "the other" are composed of, and what values are attributed to us and the other, through the themes emerging from the analyzed news. Therefore, in this study, it was concluded that both newspapers formed us and the other according to their ideological attitudes and developed their news content within these limits. Türkiye Newspaper takes sides with the "angry crowd" that it defines as us, marginalizing Alevis in particular to Aziz Nesin, and composes its news from the discourses of the right-wing political leaders of the period. On the other hand, Cumhuriyet Newspaper, takes sides with Nesin as us and marginalizes the followers of sharia and reactionary in its news and composes its news from the discourses of the attacked Alevis and Nesin.
