Relationships between relational uncertainty, gender role stereotypes, partner responsiveness and marital satisfaction in married women who became mothers for the first time: An analysis from the perspective of relational turbulence model

The main purpose of this study is to examine the path followed by the variables of egalitarian gender roles, relational uncertainty, perceived partner responsinevess and relational turbulence on the perceived marital satisfaction in married women who have at least one child between 0-36 months, For this purpose, firstly, the validity and reliability analyzes of the "Relational Uncertainty Scale" and the "Relational Turbulence Scale" were carried out and the aforementioned scales were adapted to Turkish. Then, Gender Roles Attitude Scale, Relational Uncertainty Scale, Perceived Partner Responsiveness Scale, Relational Turbulence Scale and Marriage Life Scale were applied to 464 mothers in order to test the research model. However, the data of 57 participants were not included in the study for some reasons and SEM analysis was conducted on the data of 407 participants. The research model was tested with SEM analysis and the findings indicated that the model was compatible with the data. When the direct and indirect effects in the model are examined, consistent with the hypotheses of the study, respectively, perceived partner responsiveness mediated the relationship between egalitarian gender roles and marital satisfaction, the relationship between relational uncertainty and marital satisfaction, the relationship between egalitarian gender roles and relational turbulence, the relationship between relational uncertainty and relational turbulence. In addition, the findings indicate that the relationship between perceived partner sensitivity and marital satisfaction is mediated by relational turbulence. Finally, relational uncertainty seems to mediate the relationship between egalitarian gender roles and perceived partner responsiveness. It is thought that the present study findings have important contributions to both psychology literature and practical couple therapists.
