Prognostic importance of PET/CT in patients with newly diagnosed multipl myeloma

Objective: In multiple myeloma, PET/CT helps us to determine whether there is an extramedullary disease, while at the same time lithic lesions and extramedullary inform the SUVmax values of the disease, the number of lytic lesions. In recent years, studies have been conducted to investigate the prognostic effect of PET/CT in multiple myeloma. In this study, we wanted to retrospectively investigate the prognostic effect of PET/CT taken at the time of diagnosis in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients. Materials and Methods: In our study, 18-90 years old 113 patients admitted to the Hematology outpatient clinic of Necmettin Erbakan University Medical School Hospital were included. The biochemical values of the patients included in the study were hemogram, sedimentation, beta-2 microglobulin levels, genetic anomaly states, bone marrow pathology results, PET/CT findings, mean survival times, progression-free survival times, etc, at the time of diagnosis, how old they were, their gender was determined. In addition, multiple myeloma subtype, disease stage, risk group, 3 post-cycle response states of the patient group were recorded. Results: As a result of our study, it was statistically significant that the response rate to treatment decreased as the SUVmax value increased in patients with extramedullary disease. Lytic lesion SUVmax has been found to be over 6.85'ins in association with lower survival. Extramedullary disease SUVmax has been found to be above 8,20' as associated with lower survival. Patients with no treatment response had a lower sedimentation rate, lower creatinine values, lower LDH level and higher albumin level than those without. Conclusion: In our study, it was shown that SUVmax values at the time of diagnosis have prognostic importance for response to treatment and survival.
