Abstract (EN)

This study was planned to investigate the feeding types, breastfeeding status and sucking problems of newborn infants and to determine the factors affecting them. The research was conducted retrospectively by examining the records of infants who applied to the obstetrics, gynecology, nursing and nursing clinic of a private university in Izmir Bornova between March 2015 and 2016. This is a descriptive study examining the records of 1520 newborn infants who are the sample. In the study, individual identification form was used to collect the data. SPSS 25.0 (Statistical package for the social sciences) program was used in the evaluation of the data. Significance level p value was taken as 0.05 in the comparisons of the data and Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance, Mann-Whitney U test, Chi square analysis and Shapiro Wilk test were used on the data. When the findings were examined in our study, the mean duration of breastfeeding of mothers with breastfeeding experience was 2.86 ± 0.03 months. There was a significant relationship between the period of breastfeeding, the birth week of the baby, the birth weight of the baby and the weight the baby applied to the polyclinic. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the baby's birth week, weight and admission to the polyclinic according to whether the mother continued to breastfeed. It has a critical role in replacing the faulty breastfeeding behaviors of nurses among health professionals with appropriate behaviors and trainings to be given to mothers. The results of the studies conducted with large sample groups are also important in terms of providing meaningful data in the preparation of these educational contents. Age, working status, mode of birth, frequency and duration of breastfeeding and the causes of suckling problems of the mother and the baby should be emphasized carefully. Keywords: Breast milk, feeding patterns, sucking proble, newborn babies
