Evaluation of the needs of inpatients' family members in intensive care unit

Dr. Nilgün ULUTAŞDEMİR 2018, 46 (Pages), 9 (Additional pages) The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify the needs that could develop depending on the intensive care unit and to formulate recommendations to minimize and reduce these needs of family members. The cross-sectinal and descriptive type of the study sample included family members of the patients who were receiving care between December 2017 and January 2018 in Trabzon Vakfıkebir State Hospital surgical and intensive intensive care units. According to the medical records of the hospital where the study was carried out, approximately 15 patients per month are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. At least two relatives or first-degree relatives visit each patient during the hospital stay. For this reason, based on sample of 75 individuals, the total sample was included in the study and all of them participated in the study. The data were analyzed using frequency, t test, Anova and correlation analysis. 65.3% of the relatives included in the sample were woman and the mean age was 78.56 ± 9.83. The needs of trust, knowledge and intimacy of the relatives of the patients in the 20-50 years of age were found to be higher than those of 51-80 years. In this study, it was found that the family members of the patients in intensive care unit need trust and knowledge at the highest level and support at the lowest level.
