The knowledge levels of the mothers that have child between 1 to 3 years old the associated factors

The period to begin toilet training corresponds to 1-3 age range that children recognize themselves. Toilet training process requires that the mothers should be careful and patient and during this process the mothers must demonstrate appropriate attitudes and behaviors. The nurses who is responsible of monitoring and care 0-6 age group of children, should be aware of the developmental characteristics of children according to their age and their families' training requirements. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the knowledge levels of the mothers that have child between 1 to 3 years old the associated factors. In this study a qualitative-descriptive approache has been proposed. The mothers who applied to a private university hospital of children's health and disease polyclinics between 1 December 2015 and 31 March 2016 in boundaries of Istanbul, have created the population of the research and 79 mothers having child from 1 to 3 and participating voluntarily, have created the sample of the research. The research data were collected by researcher with a questionnaire developed in line with the literature and consisting of 49 questions. In order to describe and summarise the data; central tendency (mean, mod, median) dispersion (variance of the scores-range Standard deviation) and frequency statistics was used. The data compliance to normal distribution was tested by One Sample Kolmogorov Smirnov test and on advanced analysis nonparametric Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis test and for the relationship analysis Spearman's correlation coefficient were used. The total data points of responses, given by the mothers to "Toilet Training Information Form '', varies from 10 to 23 and the average point was found as 16.52 ± 2.55 over 25 point. It was seen that the Toilet Training Knowledge point average of the mothers , whose education levels have been higher education , was significantly higher (17.00 ± 2.63) and working mothers' point averages (17.06 ± 2.61) was more higher than non-working mothers' point averages (15,68 ± 2,25).
