Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of reading comics on the mother-child relationship in children aged 10-11. The type of research is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group. The population of the study consisted of 126 fifth-grade students studying at Kayabey Şehit Ferruh Kulaoğlu Secondary School and the mothers of these students, the study was completed with 60 mothers and 60 children, 30 of whom were in each group. The data of the study were collected by using the "Information Form, Short Form of the Experiences in Close Family Relationships Scale, and the Parent-Child Relationship Scale". The mother-child pairs in the experimental group read the determined comics together for 20-30 minutes a day, once a week for 6 weeks. The level of attachment avoidance (19.46 ± 9.64) before the intervention of the children in the experimental group was significantly lower than the level of attachment avoidance (15.43 ± 9.56) after the intervention (p< .01). The level of the negative parent-child relationship (20.06 ± 3.39) before the intervention of the mothers in the experimental group was significantly higher than the level of the negative parent-child relationship (14.13 ± 3.35) after the intervention (p< .01). Similarly, the level of the negative parent-child relationship (19 ± 3.41) before the intervention of the mothers in the control group was found to be significantly higher than the level of the negative parent-child relationship (13.83 ± 3.46) after the intervention (p< .01). Reading comics in children aged 10-11 is effective in increasing the positive mother-child relationship, reducing the negative mother-child relationship and attachment avoidance. It is recommended to encourage reading comics in schools to support positive mother-child relationships, reduce negative mother-child relationships, and support secure mother-child bonding.
