Abstract (EN)
All aspects of human biology, physicality, psychology, and sociology form a complex network of interactions that constitute the foundation of spatial design. In this context, this thesis titled "Reflection of Guest Hosting Rituals in Interior Space in Ottoman Palaces: The Example of Topkapı Palace in the 17th-18th Centuries" emphasizes that spatial design is not merely comprised of structural elements, but also exists within cultural contexts and guest hosting traditions. Furthermore, the emergence of spaces that cater to needs arising from guest offerings such as coffee and meals, which are also observed in this culture, is addressed. Interior spaces not only fulfill basic vital needs but also respond to cultural necessities. In this thesis, the interior spaces of Topkapı Palace will be examined in detail. The expression of guest hosting rituals through design choices is analyzed, particularly focusing on interior elements such as spatial layout, furnishings, and decorative elements. This analysis demonstrates that space transcends being merely a physical environment, acquiring a cultural identity, and reveals how the concept of guest hosting is reflected within interior spaces. Based on this, it is understood that interior design has the potential to reflect guest hosting rituals and that interior spaces serve as not only architectural structures but also as expressions of spatial identity and cultural memory. Keywords; the palace structures, guest hospitality, rituals, multi functionality, flexible design, space design, spatial identity.
