Ottoman Empire took yet another turn with Tanzimat era. During this epoch, in numerous field, many reforms had been executed. Also In field of economy innovations has been seen. There is no doubt that among the financial reforms, renewal of the taxation is the one of the most important reform of era. Till mid of 19th century, non-equivalent taxation and complicated system of collecting of the tax was cause of trouble both for public and State. In order to resolve this problem and collecting the taxes according to public's income in proportion, bureaucracy of the state implemented new legal regulations and legislations. In order to properly apply the new taxation system that been created, in nationwide household heads' properties, premises, livestock, movable and immovable properties and if they have any income from their occupations had been registered. The registries that result of aforementioned works' outcome have been collected in, called "Temettuat Defteri" (Profit and Earnings Registry). Those Registries contains very important informations in economic and social contexts that are significant for Ottoman History and especially in terms of local history studies. The primary resource of this study which aims to examine,19th century Zile district center's social and demographic structure is "Zile Temettuat defteri" that has been coded in The Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry as; BOA. ML. VRD, TMT. d. The villages and tribes that reside in or depend on Zile district center are not included to this study. With this study, through the obtained data from "Temettuat Defteri" (Profit and Earnings Registry), between 1844-1845 new findings of Zile Distirct's inhabitant's characteristic features like; population, religion, ethnicity, cognomen, name and occupations revealed. Besides, possesses like; livestock, vineyard, orchard, truck farm, movable and immovable goods that were belongs to household heads who were living in the district center, and likewise their occupations, their status in the foundations, partnerships with various people have been separately evaluated. In this study apart from Registries, contemporary annuals of Sivas, various reference materials, and all studies that been done related to the district of Zile has been scanned. In all these aspects, this study refers to the economic policies of the Ottoman Tanzimat period in general. In particular, Tokat aims to contribute to the history of Zile, a district that is under-worked in local history Studies. Key Words: Zile, Temettuat, Tax, İncome, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry
