Abstract (EN)
The Industrial Revolution began to show its impact in the world in the mid-18th century. The developments that had their impact in Turkey at the end of the 1800s triggered developments in many areas. One of the areas where the Industrial Revolution had an impact was architecture. The perspective on the concept of housing in architecture has changed, and the concepts of functionality, modernity and simplicity have come to the fore. While these developments continued their impact in the 20th century, the difficult conditions and population changes created by the wars in the world led societies to practical solutions on many issues. Architecture, one of the fields where practical solutions are targeted, has come to the fore in Turkey with the coexistence of the concepts of modernity and nationality throughout the period. In line with the aim of building a national and modern nation, various architectural stages have been passed and new public space models have been created in many cities. The progress of industrialization has led to the emergence of different branches of industry. For this reason, there has been an intense migration from rural areas to big cities for job opportunities. With internal migration, the need to solve the housing problem arose and this started a period in which different construction models were tried. One of these models is "apartment building", which aims to solve the housing problem by intensifying it, while the other is "cooperative", which aims to overcome financing and construction problems. Due to its geographical location, the city of Antalya experienced the country's general modernization process and the spatial effects of this process a little later than other cities. With the Republican Era, Antalya became one of the cities that received intense immigration from its surroundings. This wave of migration forced the city to adapt to the dynamics of the period and caused urban transformation to accelerate. This thesis study aims to examine the housing problem that emerged in Antalya in the first half of the 20th century and how the housing cooperatives that aimed to solve this problem evolved. The early building cooperatives that emerged in this period are important examples where traditional values were intertwined with modern culture and a new identity was tried to be created. Examining these examples in detail will help us understand how the concept of modern housing spread in the city and how different housing types emerged, and will also contribute to eliminating the deficiencies in the literature. This study aims to make a significant contribution to the history and city memory of Antalya.
