Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Substance addiction is a multifaceted problem that negatively affects the individual, family and society. In our study, it was aimed to contribute to the literature and the prevention of addiction, as a result of obtaining sociodemographic characteristics and epidemiological data on substance use in patients who were drug addicts and were treated at Diyarbakır ÇEMATEM between 2016-2019. Material and Method: In the our present study; 363 cases treated at the child adolescent substance addiction treatment and rehabilitation center in Diyarbakır between January 1, 2016- December 30, 2019 were examined retrospectively. Results: The mean age of cases was 16.1±1,2 in male and 15.4±1,3 in female, 89.81% were male and 10.19% were female, 99.4% were single, 77.6% dropped out of school, 36.3% of them work in temporary jobs, 52.4% of the cases live in Diyarbakır, 90.7% of the cases live with their family, 66.7% of the cases live in the city center, 93.4% consists of nuclear family, 90.6% of the cases their father provide for our families, 90.6% of their fathers; 97.8%, their mothers was alive, 98.8% of them had a low education level of the mother and 88.3% of the father had a low level of education (below high school), 79.5% of them are at low socioeconomic level, 62.6% of them have 5 or more siblings, 46.1% had a criminal history, 39.5% of them had a history of imprisonment in a relative, 98% of the cases were smokers, 54.2% of the cases used alcohol, 58.3% of the cases had a history intentional self-mutilation behavior, 19.4% of the cases had a history of suicide attempt, 59.2% of the cases history of running away from home, 85.9% of the cases used multiple substances, the age of onset of substance use is at least 8, the mean age of onset of substance use is 13, 66.6% of the cases used cannabis as a starting substance, it was determined that the most frequently used substance (91.1%) was cannabis. Conclusion: Substance abuse is an important problem affects the individual and society. The investigation of this problem and determination of the causes will be able to be a source for the measures that can be taken and the solutions that will be produced.
