Abstract (EN)

The 19th century is characterized as a significant period in the Ottoman Empire in terms of modernity and orientation toward the West. During this era, the state administration implemented numerous innovations. One of the most important of these innovations was in the field of law. Especially with the Tanzimat Edict of 1839, many reforms were introduced in the legal domain. The tereke records are books in which the debts, savings, wills, and taxes on the belongings of deceased individuals were recorded. These records provide an opportunity to make many inferences about the period in which they were kept. Through these records, it is possible to access information about the socio-economic structure, demographic analysis, and many other aspects of the time. The tereke records found in the 211th Numbered Burdur Sharia Register, which is the primary source of our study, have been evaluated from various perspectives. In this context, inferences were made about inheritance distribution, wealth accumulation, ethnographic material, socio-economic structure, and family structure, and new scientific knowledge was aimed to be produced. As a result of these studies, it is intended to bring to light the state of Burdur, a district of the Ottoman Empire at that time, as well as to contribute to the local history of Burdur and local historiography. Keywords: Burdur, Sharia Registers, Heritage Records, Inheritance, Family, Economic and Demographic Structure, Ethnographic Material
