Abstract (EN)
In this study, firstly, we have explored the nature of seven EFL teachers' perceived needs for change at the outset of the teacher development program. Later, teachers' (in-service) development and their personal theories of effective language teaching have been dealt with thoroughly. We have adopted a problem-centered approach to teachers' development by helping them set up their own agenda for change. We employed a research process where an action research methodology was used. A collaborative and qualitative action research model was used in this study on the basis of Kelly's (1955) personal construct theory as a theoretical and methodological framework. In order to achieve the aim of this study, the teachers' perceptions of effective language teaching were elicited. After the identification of their needs and interests, they were involved in an action research process through input and classroom inquiry phases. After the repertory grid administrations of the teachers, the constructs elicited from them were observed in their classes through notes and checklist. Thus, the content and the structure of the teachers' personal theories, the changes in their theories and the consistency between theIV conceptual and behavioural changes were investigated. The repertory grid data were subjected to Focus, Exchange, Sociogrid and content analysis. Key words: Action Research, Personal Construct Theory, Repertory Grid, In- Service Teacher Development, Teacher Learning and Thinking, Reflective Teaching.
