A narratological approach to "Dar Zamanlar" Tetralogy of Adalet Ağaoğlu

Ölmeye Yatmak, Bir Düğün Gecesi, Hayır and Dert Dinleme Uzmanı, which belong to Dar Zamanlar tetralogy of Adalet Ağaoğlu, one of the most significant writers of modern Turkish literature, were fictionalised with the narratological styles in different directions. This study aims to analyse Dar Zamanlar of Ağaoğlu with a narratological approach on the basis of Narrative Discourse of Gérard Genette. The analyses of the novels focus on how time settings, narrators' problematic, narrative distances and perspectives were setup. While analysing time settings of the narrations, based on Genette's theoretical framework and its theoretical concepts, the analyses were made about; on the one hand, how the time was setup in analepsis and prolepsis; on the other hand, how the techniques such as summary, interlude, ellipsis and stage form the time. By scrutinising the point of view problem in the analysed literary works, the point of view of the narrator for the events and the conditions was determined. In consideration of these determinations, the distinction between narration point of view and narration voice was found out by questioning whether the perceiver of the story world and the fictional existences, who narrate the stories, were the same person or not. The narrators' conveyance of discourse techniques in Dar Zamanlar were determined; the types of their narrative levels were identified; their narratological functions were observed; time settings of the actions were determined. In this study, not only a structural analysis was done for determining the narratological elements but also it was revealed how the narrative strategy was fictionalised by questioning the intended purposes of the elements.
