Women members of Parliamnet from Justice Party and their activities in Grand National Assembly of Turkey (1961-1980)

The acquisition of political rights which is one of the most important milestones of women's rights struggle took place in Turkey before many other countries in the world. Although the process of women's getting their dues dates back to the period of Ottoman Empire,it gathered momentum with the proclamation of Republic and women have achieved the political rights. Women had the right to vote and to be elected in Municipal Elections in 1930, in Village Headman Committees in 1933 and in Parliamentary Elections in 1934. In the elections held in 1935, eighteen women managed to be a member of Parliament. After that The Republic of Turkey which encountered a political change, shifted to multiparty system.During the period of Democratic Party which was remarkably important in Turkish political life women followed Turkish politics closely but the representation rates in Parliament have decreased continuously. Justice Party ,founded by re-authorization of political activities following the military intervention on 27th May and considered as a follow-up of Democratic Party was dissolved by military intervention occured again on 12th September 1980.During this period seven women deputies who were elected to Parliament on behalf of Justice Party witnessed many political , social , cultural and economical events together with other members of the party. Almost all of these women deputies who served in Parliamentary Commissions and introduced a bill, were well-educated, multilingual and qualified.These deputies dealing with women rights and issues closely, expressed their gratitude to Atatürk who confered their rights at every turn they took the flor.
