Abstract (EN)

PURPOSE: Lung cancer may cause a decreased apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW MRI) and an increased standardized uptake value (SUV) on fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET/CT). In our study, the relation between PET / CT and DW-MRI findings and staging efficiency in lung cancers were investigated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: İn our study, this retrospective analysis of DW MRI and FDG PET/CT data series included 34 lung cancer who were examined between November 2017 and March 2019.Patients had PET/CT and DW MRI imagings on 1.5 T Amira and Siemens. After ethical approval was obtained from institutional review board, we retrospective evaluated our record in order to find patients with lung cancer that have both PET/CT and MRI for metastasis screening. All of PET/CT and MRI parameters measurements were obtained using LEONARDO,SYNGO,SECTRA and GE workstation. Patients age, sex, smoking, surgery history, distant metastasis, mass size, lymphadenopathy size were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed with statistical software SPSS 23.0. Spearman correlation test and Kruskal walliswere used for comparison. RESULTS 34 patients (97,1% men) were included the study. Patients mean age was 64.95±7.31.These patients' 44.1 percent(15) had distal metastasis and 61.7 percent(21) had mediastinal/hylar lmphadenopathy. No statistically significant correlation was found between PET metabolic parameters and ADC values of lung cancer. However, there was a negative correlation between the parameters of both groups. Acceptable results were found between TLG and ADCmax (r = -0.311 (0.20-0.40) and p = 0.057 (p> 0.05). Other acceptable results were found between SUVmaks and ADCmin (r= -0,281 (0,21- 0,40) and p=0,088 (p>0,05)) In addition, the highest mathematical expectation was between MTV and TLG (r = 0.935 and p = 0) (TLG = MTV x SUVort) About patients have lymphadenopathy (n=21) In addition, the highest correlation was found between SUVmean and ADCmean (r = -0,495 (0,41-0,60) and p = 0,023 (p <0,05)). The other pair with similar ratio was found between SUVmax and ADCort (r = -0.458 (0.41-0.60) and p = -0.037 (p <0.05) In our study, the parameter determination of the systemic metastases (visceral organs, central nervous system, bone, etc.) was not evaluated CONCLUSION There was a statistically negative correlation between SUV and ADC parameters in patients with lung cancer. We believe that ADC values may be noninvasive markers in T and N staging in patients with lung cancer.
