Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Purpose: Acromegaly is a syndrome characterized by growth hormone (GH) and insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) oversecretion. The relation between growth hormone and the cardiovascular system has raised great interest as a prevalence of cardiovascular disease has been described in acromegalic patients.high In Acromegaly, hypertension is common (mean % 35) and cardiovascular diseases is the principal cause of death. Coronary heart disease, arrhythmias and heart failure are the predominant cause of increased mortality in acromegaly. Twenty-four hours ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was reported to bea more accurate determinant of hypertension and the risk of future cardiovascular event. Recently, research has focused increasingly on arterial stiffness as a cardiovascular risk factor. Ambulatory Arterial Stiffness Index (AASI), a novel, easy-to-obtain method, which is derived from 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure recordings, has been proposed recently as an indicator of arterial stiffness and shown to provide prognostic information on cardiovascular mortality. In this study, we aimed to determine the relation between AASI clinical and laboratory parameters in patients with Acromegaly. Material-method: 65 patients with acromegaly, who applied to Dicle University Medical Faculty Department of Endocrinology (33 female ? 32 male) were included in this study. Demographic and clinical data were recorded. Laboratory data (whole blood count, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, electrolytes, albumin, lipid profile, GH, IGF-1, OGTT) performed last 1 years were evaluated. AASI were obtained from 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring records in all patients. Statistical evaluation was performed using SPSS 16.0 computer program of study. P <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Findings: 65 patients were included in the study. 33 were women (% 50.8) and 32 men (% 49.2). The study control group consisted of 65. The average of age of patients were 43.10 ± 12.2 years. The mean age of the control group was found 45.14 ± 16.30. Control patients were 34 were women (% 52.3) and 31 men (% 47.7). T In 12 patients (% 18.4), diabetes mellitus, 21 patients (% 32), hypertension. Mean AASI value was 0.41 ± 0.14. Control group mean AASI value was 0.25 ± 0,09. GH levels were positively correlated with the AASİ value. Statisticallysignificant. AASİ value was higher in hypertensive subjects normotensive individuals. But not statistically significant. In conclusion: This is the a study which evaluated AASİ in patients with Acromegaly. We obtained the results similar previously acknowledgment in the literature about other arterial stiffness measures. Larger studies are needed to become established for routine use of that easy method.
