Angela Merkel'in göçmen krizi sırasında Türk medyasındaki imajı

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has become a role model for all the women in the world who dream about being a leader. After the reunification of Germany, she opened a new era by becoming the first female Chancellor of Germany. However, we can say that Merkel is a powerful leader who left her mark in history like the most successful leader models like Queen Elizabeth I., Georgian Queen Tamar and Massagetean ruler Queen Tomyris. Merkel's prime ministry was a quantum leap that opened new horizons for German women. Merkel has been likened to Margaret Thatcher. But Merkel who is scientist at the same time, has a very original leadership profile. She proved her talent to manage the crises in Germany and Europe. However, crisis periods also became important to test the power of Merkel. These crises put Merkel into corner especially when media writes about her performance during these crises. Media attributes always more stereotypes to women leaders than male leaders. The stereotypes among many which include sexist approach that aims to disgrace the image of Merkel in the eyes of public opinion since each media company has different political stance. In our study we aimed to find out how Turkish media reflected the image of Angela Merkel during this period of crisis. Our aim was to find out which stereotypes came first to describe Angela Merkel in three Turkish newspapers, Sabah, Hürriyet and Cumhuriyet and how these stereotypes effect the image of Merkel in Turkish press. We aim to find out whether her leadership achievements are reflected well or not during this period. With the findings of this study we aim to open way for future woman leaders to be more powerful.
