Assessment of the prevalence of anxiety and depression among nursing students in middle euphrates of Iraq in pandemic process

This research aims to evaluate the prevalence of anxiety and depression among nursing students in the Middle Euphrates, Iraq, in the pandemic process.The study used a descriptive and observational study method in 4 universities in Iraq in the period between March to June 2022. The sample of the study consists of 812 nursing students by the sample calculation method. Data were collected online through Google Forms. "Sociodemographic Characteristics Form", "The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scale", and "Beck Depression Scale" were used to collect data, Mann-Whitney U or Kruskal￾Wallis and Post-Hock tests were used to analyze the data. These results most of nursing srudents 58% of the study group were female and 77.4% were single. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scale' mean score of students was 50.9 ± 10.1 Beck Depression Scale mean score 21.00 ± 12.00 moderate depression among nursing students mean. It was also shown that there is a statistically significant negative relationship between the total score of The State-Trait scale Anxiety Inventory scale and the Beck score is positive. As the scores for the subdimension of anxiety increase, the total scores for depression increase. There is a positive relationship between BDI scale and STAI scale. This study concluded that nursing students' scores on the anxiety scale were high, and that this score had a significant impact on depression among nursing students during the pandemic and its spread among students. The study recommends the need to provide psychological counseling to the unemployed, those with negative income, sSmoker use and chronic diseases.
