Özet (EN)

With globalization, learning more than one language has gained importance, as a result of researchers' focusing on language learning skills of the learners. The aim of this study is to find out the success and failure attributions of students in four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) while learning English. For this purpose, mixed method research design was used; opinions of students studying in English preparatory programs at two different universities, Pamukkale University and Harran University, were gathered. The data were collected both through a questionnaire and face-to-face semi-structured interviews. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed with SPSS and the data from the interview were analyzed through content analysis. As a result of the research; considering the success levels of the students, it was seen that the highest success rate was in listening skill and the lowest success rate was in speaking skill. According to the students' opinions, the factors affecting their English learning skills are; ability to make inferences, suitability of educational texts and videos for students, teacher feedback, encouragement and attitude, practice, motivation and self-confidence. These factors are generally internal and controllable. In general, it has been observed that the learning areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking are interrelated.
