Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the examination whether homework which is given in connection with physical education has an impact on the development of the child's character or not.The sample of the study consists of 100 randomly selected pupils (n = 59 girls and n = 41 boys) from 3 different classes in 5th grade in an elementary school in Efeler - a district of Aydın - in 2016-2017 school year. The pupils were divided into 2 groups, one as an experimental group (n = 50) and one as a control group (n = 50). In addition to the content of the Ministry of Education for the 5th grade primary curriculum, homework was given to the pupils in the experimental group for 8 weeks duration. It includes physical exercises like push-ups, shuttles, squats, plank, etc., which could be exercised without any sports equipment (on 3 days a week for 1 hour) at home. The pupils in the control group did not participate in any activities other than physical education classes. For Determination of the characters of the pupils in experimental and control groups was "Youth Sports Value Questionnaire" used which was developed by Martin J. Lee and friends in year 0f 2000 and modified by Frogozo in year of 2006. The survey was adapted to Turkish by Yalız (2011). The survey was administered before and after the 8 week exercise program. The data from the questionnaires were evaluated in the SPSS 22.0 package program at a level of 0.05 significance and 95% confidence interval. In the statistical analysis, the pre-test scores of the pupils in the experimental and control groups were significantly different (p = 0.032; p <0.05) in favor of the pupils in the experimental group; this difference was more evident in the final test (p = 0.001; p <0.05). In the direction of this obtained result, push-ups, shuttles, squat, plank, etc. given to the pupils in the physical education course as homework the exercise program that incorporates movements has contributed to the character development of the pupils. For this reason, simple physical exercises that do not require any additional tools or skills should be given as homework to the pupils who visit the primary schools. Thus, it is predicted that the desired behavioral changes can be achieved in the pupils.
