The research of the effect to acedemic success of computer based instruction in the unit ?concious person-livable environment?

The importance of student-centred instruction has increased because of the fact that the subjects of science and especially of biology are very complex and abstract. One of the approaches used in student-centred instruction is computer assisted instruction. Computers provide students motivation and their active participations in lessons by supporting the instruction with the materials such as graphic, video, picture, transparency, animation and sound. From this point of view, computers have great part in instruction. With this study, it is intended to research the effects of computer assisted instruction material on the student?s success. This material is prepared for instruction of the subject ?Conscious Person-Livable Environment? for the 9th grade students at secondary education.In this study, the 9th grade students of Mamak Yunus Büyükkuşoğlu High School in Ankara are compared to find how the methods used for instruction of subject ?Conscious Person-Livable Environment? affect the environment knowledge.Total 100 students from four 9th grade classes participated in the study in Mamak Yunus Büyükkuşoğlu High School. The classes are determined as experiment (test) group and control group by drawing lots. During the instruction of ?Conscious Person-Livable Environment? unit, computer assisted instruction is used for the test group and traditional instruction methods are used for the control group.Before and after the study, the students had an achievement test consisting of 20 questions. It is utilized from SPSS package for the analysis of the results.At the end of the study, it has become definite that computer assisted instruction method assisted in student?s academic success.Keywords : Computer assisted instruction, Environment education, Environment knowledge
