Abstract (EN)

The vast majority of children around the world are exposed to neglect and abuse in any stage. The acts of violence and abuse, which are described as sociological and global phenomena, harm the mental and physical integrity of the child and deprive them from enjoying their rights. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is written to protect children with an understanding of rights-based protection, imposes responsibility on state parties for the protection of children from all kinds of neglect and abuse. The aim of this study is to determine the content and scope of aforementioned obligations. Particularly, children who need special protection against neglect and abuse is mentioned and underlined that states should be more sensitive on this issue. In addition, the terms of child, childhood and the child rights have been conceptually and historically examined in order to achieve the aim of the study.
