The effect of pomegranate peel powder and probiotic addition to broiler diets on serum antioxidant levels

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of adding different amounts of pomegranate peel powder and probiotics to broiler diets on serum antioxidant levels. A total of 96 1-day-old male Ross 308 broiler chicks were used. In the study, one control and 3 treatment groups, each consisting of 24 chicks, were formed. The control group was fed with basal feed, while the other groups were fed with basal feed supplemented with probiotics (1.5 g/kg), pomegranate peel powder (3 g/kg), and probiotics (1.5 g/kg) + pomegranate peel powder (3 g/kg) as ad libitum. The trial continued for 42 days. At the end of the trial, serum antioxidant levels were analyzed by ELISA method. Catalase and Glutathione Peroxidase levels were found to be more significant in the pomegranate peel powder supplemented groups than in the other groups. Superoxide Dismutase concentration was found to be statistically significant in both the pomegranate peel powder and probiotic groups. As a result, it was determined that the addition of pomegranate peel powder and probiotics to the feeds had a positive effect on serum antioxidant levels and that 3 g/kg pomegranate peel powder or 1.5 g/kg probiotics could be added to broiler chicken rations as feed additives.
