Elements of folklore and folk literature in Buket Uzuner's works

Folklore and folk literature are disciplines that identify, compile, classify, interpret cultural elements in social memory and contribute to the survival of these elements. The national culture and values of societies continue to exist both in written and verbal media. However, with the impact of scientific and technological developments, many traditions, customs and cultural elements are in danger of being forgotten. In this context, novels function as an important tool in the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage. The aim of this study is to analyze Buket Uzuner's works in terms of the presence and functions of folklore and folk literature elements. In addition, it aims to offer solutions to the problem of distancing from cultural roots created by the modern age, especially on young generations. It aims to recognize the national and spiritual values, traditions and customs that are about to be forgotten and to increase social awareness in this regard.
