Abstract (EN)

In parallel with the changing art perception in Turkish painting during the modernization process, the expressive language of figurative painting towards abstraction has become richer, and artists have begun to create their own unique languages. Engraving, with its various interpretations of techniques, forms, and values, was quickly adopted, developed, and spread by artists, giving rise to unique forms of expression specific to engraving in Turkish painting. As of the 20th century, engraving had solidified its place in Turkish art, integrating its unique techniques from mold preparation to printing into modern art perception. With rapid development, engraving eventually became an accepted contemporary art form by authorities. Therefore, this thesis examines the descriptions of Figurative Abstraction in Contemporary Turkish Engraving Art and the expressive languages created by engraving artists. The main purpose of this thesis is to reveal how the descriptions of figurative abstraction are reflected in contemporary Turkish engraving art in terms of form and content, whether through old or modern techniques. By analyzing the works of important contemporary Turkish engraving artists who have worked within the scope of figurative abstraction and examining their unique expressive languages, this thesis attempts to explain the impact of engraving as a means of expression in their works. Keywords: Engraving, Contemporary Turkish Engraving Art, Abstract Abstraction, Figurative Abstraction
