Determining the undesirable behavior levels of primary school students in the online teaching process and examining them in terms of variables

Behaviors that negatively affect the learning process by disrupting the classroom environment are labeled as undesirable student behaviors. With the occurance of Covid-19, which affects the whole world, in Turkey in March 2020, a new progression has launched; hereby, face-to-face training activities have been stopped and online training has been started. This study, it is aimed to carry out a scale development study to determine the undesirable student behaviors observed by classroom teachers in their virtual classrooms within the online education process in the course of the Covid-19 global epidemic period. For this purpose, a draft scale with 46 questions was designed by following the scale development methods and taking the opinions of experts and teachers in order to ensure content validity. The draft scale was applied to 262 classroom teachers who work in primary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the 2020-2021 academic year. Varimax rotation method was used during Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA). The factor loadings of the items were examined, and the items loaded on more than one factor at the same time or with a factor load below .30 were respectively removed from the scale. Following these processes, a scale of 15 items and 5 sub-dimensions was created. As a result of the first and second level Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was applied to determine the criterion validity, it was confirmed that the fit indexes provided the criterion validity. According to the results of the reliability analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was found to be ,849, the sub-dimensions were found to vary between .688 and .841. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the 15-item "Scale for Determining the Levels of Undesirable Behavior in Online Teaching" is a valid and reliable measurement tool. Even if face-to-face education is rebooted in the coming years, it is foreseen that online courses will continue and will be an integral part of lives thanks to developing technology.
