Space design in children's libraries and children's libraries in Turkey

Children's libraries are critical institutions in terms of the goals of both formal and non-formal education in helping children acquire reading habits and contribute to their mental and physical development. It is important for children's libraries to provide services with sufficient equipment and under appropriate conditions in order to achieve their goals. In this direction, the purpose of the thesis is to create a checklist for a contemporary space design in children's libraries in our country by revealing the features and trends in space design in children's libraries in line with developments and orientations. The study has been prepared in order to determine the role of space in raising library users and providing library services in children's libraries affiliated to the General Directorate of Libraries and Publications (KYGM), which constitutes the population of the research. Besides, it has been tried to determine if the element of space is a criterion for individuals to gain the habit of using the library. In the direction of these goals, questions regarding the opinions of the staff working in children's libraries were prepared and evaluations were made on these questions. The questions were conveyed to library staff working in 40 children's libraries affiliated to KYGM via questionnaire technique and the results of the research were created by analyzing the data. Space design in children's libraries is partially sufficient and there is a meaningful relation between this level of sufficiency and the efficiency of library services (in terms of both staff and user group ). In addition, it is revealed that the space plays an important role in raising library users.
