Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of multimedia supported aplications which is designed according to 7E model on students' learning outcomes as a result of the processing of the lesson at fifth grade science course. In this work, the exploratory sequential mixed method design was preferred from mixed reseach designs and four groups of Solomon technique are used. The "Changing States of Matter" Unit achievement test is used as a quantitative data collection tool, where as open-ended questions and multimedia supported process evaluation form are used as a qualitative data collection tool. The study was conducted during 2014-2015 fall semester in a secondary school over 92 fifth grade students. A total of 92 fifth grade students from four different classes of the same science teacher was involved in the study. Multimedia supported aplications which was designed according to 7E learning model was carried out in the experimental groups, while students in the control groups were instructed with traditional method. The pre-test, the post-test and the retention test were applied to students both in the experimental and control groups. According to independent groups by t-test results, there is no significant difference (p ˃ .05) statistically between experiment-1 and control-1 group pre-test scores (achievement test) but according to the post-test and the retention test there is a significant difference statistically in favor of experimental groups (p .05). According to the results of one-way analysis of variance, there is a significant difference statistically(p <.05) between the pre-test, the post-test and the retention test scores of experiment-1 group. Besides, there is a significant difference statistically (p <.05) between the pre-test, the post-test and the retention test scores of control-1 group. As a result of examination of student feedback form (multimedia supported process evaluation form), the experimental groups learn significantly better than the control groups which is consistent with the achievement test results. From these facts one can infer that learning by multimedia supported applications which was designed according to 7E model in science education can positively affect academic success and multimedia supported applications should be used more in science education.
