A comparison of cultural elements in two sets of coursebooks: Touchstone and Less Is More

This study has been prepared to study how cultural elements are presented in a coursebook published in Turkey, Less is More (LIM) and its British counterpart, Touchstone (TS) and how these two sets of coursebooks are different from each other regarding their approach to multiculturalism. For this purpose, A2 and B1 levels of each book are compared in detail. Both LIM and TS are investigated in terms of multiculturalism, and cultural elements included in these books are explained under 15 cultural headings. The findings from both coursebooks sets are analyzed in detail together with the tables prepared in results section and the degree of occurrence of cultural features are compared in detail in conclusion to see whether they have differences in terms of multiculturalism. As a result, this thesis study, which was completed with a content analysis of qualitative research method, shows that these coursebooks are multicultural in content.
