Defining political identity of Republican People's Party in Baykal period: Social democracy or nationalist approach?

The theme of this study is the change from single party regime to multi party regime in 1946 as a result of social discontent because of some of the CHP?s practices in politics. Also the theme covers democratization movements and revolutions realized during single party governance of CHP until 1946 which was the period of transition for political parties in adopting global changes.In relation with the subject of this review, CHP has entered in a very big transformation following the single party period, in order to adopt itself to the conditions of multi-party period, which CHP is the pioneer of this life.The analysis is composed of three main parts. In the first part, the multi-party period until 1992 will be reviewed and in this part military interventions following economic recession will be covered. In the second part, period of CHP with Deniz Baykal was covered and the nationalism discussions following 1990?s which forms basis for official ideology as Six Arrows were presented and in the third and last part, the reflections of nationalism discourses during Baykal period over the policies of party were discussed.
