Identifying of teachers' views and behaviors on current physical education in changing education perception: A phenomenological study

The distance education process we experienced during Covid-19 pandemic has once again revealed the importance of teachers' field competence and professional development. In order to reach physical education's goals in the changing education perception, the way teachers deal with issues such as the use of student-centered teaching methods and models, the establishment of relationship between health and physical education and the use of technology in education is getting more important. For this reason, the aim of this thesis is to present multiple realities and to reveal an in-depth understanding by examining the views and behaviors of teachers towards current physical education in the changing education perception with a holistic perspective. In the study, which was limited to 21 physical education and sports teachers working in private and state secondary schools in the central districts of Bursa, phenomenology design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data were collected by interview method, and a semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool. As a result of the content analysis, four different themes were created: Physical Education Content, Distance Physical Education and Technology Use, Health-Based Physical Education and Teaching Experience. As a result, although the distance education process is described as a difficult experience by the teachers, it has provided some gains in terms of health-based physical education and the use of technology in physical education. However, the resulting picture shows that teaching experiences are too unique to generalize. For this reason, we recommend that sharing environments that will unite physical education teachers and candidate teachers together be created, and that schools follow approaches that encourage healthy living and physical activity for everyone in addition to their task of bringing talented children together with sports.
