Digital society digital risks for children and parents' perceptions, attitudes and coping strategies

This study aims to analyze parents' perceptions of digital risks and their coping strategies within the context of the digital society from a sociological perspective. The research focuses on the perceptions, attitudes, and daily life practices developed by parents of children aged 6–12 in response to the opportunities and threats presented by digital environments. Utilizing a qualitative research method, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 24 parents residing in Aydın, Turkey. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis, and the results were evaluated based on the real and perceived dimensions of digital risks, the change in the direction of information flow, the transformation of parental roles, and digital communication practices within the family. Findings indicate that parenting in the digital age is not only based on control but is also structured around negotiation, awareness, and transformation. This study aims to contribute to the sociological literature on digital parenting and provide practical recommendations for professionals in the field.
