Abstract (EN)

Candle is an important motif in divan poetry. Many poets, candlestick motifs and candle words in their poems frequently included. In this thesis, XV. century and XVI. Century candle motif in terms of the characteristics of the candle and the way it is studied in terms of analogy elements are examined. First of all, an overview of the candle is given. The place of candle in Ottoman culture and Turkish culture and its usage in divan poetry are emphasized. The customs and traditions related to the candle, idioms and varieties of candles are covered. In addition, the metaphors about the candle are discussed and the words corresponding to the candle are emphasized. In addition, the features of the candle as well as the couplets are explained here. Finally, obtained from the thesis the results were shown in statistical tables and graphs, a general evaluation was made and inferences were obtained here.
