Abstract (EN)
Conscious of restoration, which is the way of preserving a building and making it viable today, has started to settle in our country with the 19th century. The best way to protect a building is to make it work again. In order to transfer the cultural assets that need to be protected to future generations, a proper function should be given to this structure. When this function is gained, attention should be paid to the fact that it does not lose its original identity and is brought to the city life. Historical past BC Diyarbakır, dating back to 3000 years, has been home to many civilizations. Many of the architectural works have been inherited from this city, where the civilizations of different times have lived in the past. A large part of these works up to nowadays cannot fulfill the function of the period they were made for various reasons. Structures that cannot perform their functions are subject to danger such as abandonment or disappearance in time. Within the scope of the thesis, İçkale Museum Complex located within the boundaries of Sur district of Diyarbakır province has been examined. Giving new functions to these buildings and bringing them to city again has been evaluated. In the first part of the thesis consisting of 5 chapters; the purpose, scope and method of work are specified. In the second chapter, the history of Diyarbakir, the development of İçkale, the transformation process to the museum complex, the studies on the place of the concept of conservation in the literature are examined and the sources are summarized. In the third chapter, information of the methods of the concept of conservation has been partaken by mentioning the development of the concept of the conservation and importance of the concept of the conservation in the world and Turkey. In the fourth chapter, the historical process of the Diyarbakır İçkale Museum complex, which is the subject of the thesis, the history of Diyarbakır city, the importance of the urban texture of İçkale and the information of old function and new function of the buildings in the museum complex is presented. In the fifth section, committed field work and the researches are evaluated and the values added to the city by the new functions of the post-conservation structures were emphasized.
