Abstract (EN)
Diocaesarea, one of the cities of the Rough Cilicia, has gone through a rich historical process from the Hellenistic Period to the Late Antiquity. Data on the coin finds obtained through archaeological excavations in the cities of the region during the mentioned periods are still limited. In the city of Diocaesarea, it has been seen that the coins unearthed after the excavations of the Theater within the scope of the new studies have a variety and new data that will shed light on the periods in question. This diversity shows parallelism with the data found in the cities in the region. During the excavations of the Theater in Diocaesarea in 2017, 2021 and 2022, 2402 coins were found. It is aimed to examine the coins found in this thesis titled "Diocaesarea Theater Coin Finds". In this study, out of 2402 coins, 2 Hellenistic Period, 9 Roman Provincial, 131 Roman Imperial and 21 Byzantinecoins were identified and classified within the scope of the thesis. The remaining 2239 coins were evaluated under the title of unidentified coins. When most of this unidentified group of coins were in amorphous condition, only one catalog was made and classified from each sample coin. This thesis, in which the coins of the theater after the excavations are evaluated, is the third publication on the theater as a result of the archaeological excavations in the ancient city. With the excavations carried out in the theater, it was seen that the stratigraphic context was not continuous in the theater and the excavated areas were mostly mixed with filling material. With the coins recovered, new data about the history of the settlement of the city have been revealed, and new evidence has been presented on the construction and use of the theater. In addition to these, in Diocaesarea, there are mints belonging to different cities in Roman city coins and Roman imperial coins. The fact that these coins belong to cities located in different geographies and sheds light on the relations between these cities. The coins found in the city also show the economic and political activity of the city in the historical process. All of the remaining coins are Byzantine coins. These constitute the common coin groups of the period. When looking at the theater coins as a whole, it is seen that there was a coin group in the Theater that started with the Late Hellenistic Period and ended in the 7th century AD.
