The effect of workplace incivility on the creativity of employees

Abstract (EN)

Research has continuously demonstrated that employees who experience incivility produce a wide array of deleterious results. Nevertheless, only a few studies have been conducted to examine those who have witnessed and experienced incivility. The current study aims to examine the relationship between incivility in the workplace and emotional exhaustion, employee creativity, and employee engagement at the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity. The current study has been carried out via a questionnaire distributed to a sample of 204 employees all of whom work in the mentioned ministry. The target population of the study included surrounding senior managers, middle managers, and administrative staff. The study findings showed that incivility in the workplace has a negative correlation with the creativity of employees and is positively associated with emotional exhaustion. Moreover, the study showed that there is no statistically significant relationship between workplace incivility and employee engagement. the finding of this study clarifies that the management must take into considered the issues regarding workplace incivility due to its serious impact on staff members and also, the entire ministry must help employees to be creative, experience less emotional exhaustion, and become more engaged in their workplace environment. In the final section, we discuss the study, conclusions, practical implications, recommendations, and future projects.
