The effects of game education on attention and concentration levels and hand-eye coordination of the sedentary chi̇ldren

In this study, the effects of game education on the attention and concentration levels and hand-eye coordination of sedentary children were researched. The research universe compose 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students of a secondary school where is in the city centre of Elazig. The sample of the research compose 450 students, including girls and boys (n=225) and control group (n=225) in the 12-14 age group randomly selected from the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in this school. In the study, the experimental group played 16 educational games and threw dart that was thought to increase attention and concentration and hand-eye coordination levels during two course hours time among the eight weeks. For the control group, pre-test and post-test throwing darts were made. Developed by Brickenkamp (1962) d2 testing was used in the evaluation of attention and concentration. Eye-hand coordination was assessed through dart throws. Measurements were applied as pre-test and post-test; the data was evaluated with SPSS 22 packaged software, and the level of significance was seen to be p<0.05. No significant difference was found between experimental and control groups, pre-test d2 test scores and dart shots (p> 0.05). According to pre- and post-test results of the experiment group, it was observed a decrease in the total error and fluctuation levels (H, H%, DO); on the other side, it was observed an increase in the total number of work item (TM), total performance (TM-H) and concentration performance. 27-90 % a change was identified in favor of the experimental group in d2 test performance, hand-eye coordination and dart throws. As a result, when d2 test and dart throw performance scores are examined, it was identified that eight-week educational games and darts education have a high positive effect on attention and concentration of students and hand-eye coordination levels. These results reveal the importance of attention and concentration enhancing education, especially in physical education courses.
