Organizational behavior factors affecting teachers' organizational climate perception in educational institutions: A meta analysis study

Abstract (EN)

In this study it is aimed to determine the effect sizes of the relationships between organizational climate and organizational behavior factors within the scope of studies based on teachers' perceptions through meta-analysis. Master's and doctoral theses carried out with quantitative research and articles published in refereed journals on organizational climate in educational organizations in Turkey between January 1988 and August 2022 were included in the study. Council of Higher Education (CHE) Thesis Center and ProQuest databases were used to reach theses on organizational climate, and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Turkish Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBIM), DergiPark and Google Scholar databases were used to reach related articles. These databases were scanned with the keywords "school climate", "organizational climate" and their Turkish equivalents. 448 theses and 350 articles, 798 in total, were reached and in accordance with the inclusion criteria 79 effect size obtained out of 73 studies. Within this context 36 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and leadership style, 11 studies on the relationship between organization climate and job satisfaction, 10 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and organizational commitment, 8 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and burnout, 5 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and organizational trust, 5 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and motivation and finally 4 studies on the relationship between organizational climate and performance were included in this analysis. The sample sizes are 13693 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and leadership style, 16705 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and job satisfaction, 4030 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and commitment, 3221 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and burnout, 2178 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and trust, 2031 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and motivation,1277 teachers in terms of the relationship between organizational climate and performance. Comprehensive Meta Analysis V3 (CMA) Program was used in the analysis of the data. Studies were interpreted according to the random effects model. Funnel Scatter Graphic, Rosenthal's Fail-Safe N and Orwin's Fail Safe N Statistics, Begg and Mazumdar Rank Correlation, Egger Regression, Duval and Tweedie's Trim and Fill Method analysis were used to determine publication bias. Variables such as the gender of, publication type, education level, research region, leadership style and research year were taken as moderators. According to the analysis it is found out that the effect size of the relationship between organizational climate and leadership style is moderate and positive (r=0,445), between organizational climate and job satisfaction is moderate and positive (r=0,467), between organizational climate and commitment is moderate and positive (r=0,430), the between organizational climate and burnout is moderate and positive (r= -0,325), between the organizational climate and trust is moderate and positive (r=0,408), between the organizational climate and motivation is strong and positive (r=0,525) finally between the organizational climate and job performance is moderate and positive (r=0,358).
