Abstract (EN)
The employment of women is of critical importance for the sustainability of economic development and the increase of social welfare; this study will deeply discuss it by taking the example of Turkey. So far, not only has participation in the workforce been evaluated within the context of economic growth but also as a necessary requirement in maintaining equality between genders, establishing social justice, and accomplishing a broad-based structure for development. However, Turkey lags behind global standards in terms of women's employment and struggles with structural problems that prevent women's full participation in economic life. The relationship between women's employment and economic development is addressed in the study from a multidimensional perspective. Historical development of women's employment in Turkey, regional and sectoral differences, participation of women in the workforce, and the effects of these rates on economic development were comprehensively analyzed. In this study, the method of literature review was preferred, and national and international reports, statistical data, and legal regulations related to women's employment were examined in detail. The study's results showed that, to date, the participation of women in employment in Turkey has not reached the expected level, and the primary factor preventing women's employment is rooted in social, cultural, and structural aspects. These factors were determined to reduce women's participation in the labor force and render them unable to take an active part in the economic development processes. Presumably, this research contributes to a better understanding of the linkage between gender equality and economic development and increases awareness in this respect.
