With the new world order that developed after the industrial revolution, the relations of societies with the natural environment and the level of use of natural energy have become very important. In the building sector, which has a very large share in energy consumption, the non-environmentalist approaches created by the reduction of limited resources have been replaced by the aim of creating sustainable systems day by day. In the sustainability studies that have been frequently encountered in recent years, the environmental design criteria and the level of energy efficient use of traditional buildings, which multiply their value with their unique qualities that have survived from the past to the present, have become clearly visible. For this reason, it is necessary to increase the energy efficiency value of traditional buildings and to allow the historical texture to live for many years. Within the scope of this study, studies have been carried out to increase the energy efficiency of Hacı Kerim Sunguroğlu Mansion, which is one of the original and qualified structure that preserves its existence in the Harput region of Elazığ province. In this context, within the scope of the study, 4 scenarios and 1 optimum scenario shaped according to them were created. These scenarios were modeled and analyzed in DesignBuilder software, which is a building simulation tool with the definition of input data, and the consumed heating, cooling, total energy value and CO2 emission values were calculated. The results revealed that up to 36% energy savings and up to 38% reduction in CO2 emission value can be achieved with applications that will not harm the identity value of the traditional building. With the example of Hacı Kerim Sunguroğlu Mansion, it is seen that it is possible to keep traditional buildings in a climate-balanced design alive and to increase their energy efficiency values. This study will guide to be a remarkable resource that designers can use for new or re-functional structures.
